Arsenios of Varnakova

Venerable Arsenios, founder of the Monastery of Varnakova in Nafpaktia.

Arsenios was the founder of the Monastery of the Theotokos of Varnakova in the mountains of Nafpaktia in central Greece, traditionally in the eleventh century. He gathered a brotherhood there and established a rule of common life.

He is honored on the feast of his namesake Arsenios the Great.

On the New Calendar, Arsenios of Varnakova is commemorated on May 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 21 of the civil calendar.
