Cassian the Recluse of the Kiev Caves

Venerable Cassian the Recluse of the Far Caves of Kiev.

Cassian was a monk of the Kiev Caves Lavra who shut himself in a cell in the Far Caves and gave himself to prayer, fasting and obedience. The paterikon of the Lavra remembers him for humility and love of labor.

His relics rest in the Far Caves; he is placed in the thirteenth or fourteenth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Cassian the Recluse of the Kiev Caves is commemorated on May 8. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 21 of the civil calendar.
