Venerable Athanasius Parios, theologian and teacher, leading figure of the Kollyvades movement.
Saint Athanasius was born on Paros in 1721 and studied in Smyrna and at the Athonite Academy under Eugenios Voulgaris. He taught in Thessaloniki, Corfu and Chios and, with Saints Nikodemos the Hagiorite and Makarios of Corinth, was a leader of the Kollyvades renewal that called for frequent communion and fidelity to the tradition of the Fathers.
He reposed on Chios in 1813 and was glorified in 1995.

On the New Calendar, Athanasius Parios is commemorated on June 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 7 of the civil calendar.
