Benjamin the Deacon

Holy Martyr Benjamin the Deacon, who suffered in Persia for preaching Christ.

Benjamin was a deacon in Persia in the fifth century who converted many from the worship of fire. Imprisoned for two years, he was released on condition that he cease preaching, but he would not be silent.

Seized again, he was cruelly tortured with reeds thrust under his nails and finally impaled, around the year 424.

On the New Calendar, Benjamin the Deacon is commemorated on October 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 26 of the civil calendar.
