Carpus and Papylus

Holy Martyrs Carpus and Papylus.

Saints Carpus and Papylus suffered for Christ during the persecutions of the third century in Asia Minor. Carpus, a bishop, and Papylus, a deacon known for his care of the sick, refused to offer pagan sacrifice; with their companions they endured torture with joy and received the crown of martyrdom at Pergamum.

Their witness, preserved in some of the most ancient martyr accounts of the Church, strengthened the faithful of Asia Minor in a time of trial. They are commemorated on October 13.

On the New Calendar, Carpus and Papylus is commemorated on October 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 26 of the civil calendar.
