Daniel the Hesychast

Venerable Daniel the Hesychast of Voronet in Moldavia.

Venerable Daniel was a hermit of Moldavia in the fifteenth century who lived in a cell carved into the rock near the future monastery of Voronet. Tradition relates that he was the spiritual counsellor of the prince Stephen the Great, who built the monastery at his encouragement. He reposed in peace and is honoured by the Church of Romania.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Daniel the Hesychast is commemorated on December 18. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 31 of the civil calendar.
