Zacchaeus and Alphaeus

Holy Martyrs Zacchaeus the Deacon of Gadara and Alphaeus the Reader, at Caesarea in Palestine.

Saint Zacchaeus was a deacon of the church of Gadara and Alphaeus a reader of Caesarea. During the persecution of Diocletian they were arrested, Zacchaeus for his open confession and Alphaeus for exhorting Christians not to sacrifice.

After tortures both were beheaded at Caesarea in Palestine.

The holy martyrs Zacchaeus, a deacon of Gadara, and Alphaeus, a reader of the church of Caesarea, suffered at Caesarea in Palestine at the beginning of the persecution of Diocletian. Their martyrdom is recorded by Eusebius, who tells that they were tortured and beheaded together.
