• Plato of Ancyra

  Martyr, Πλάτων

  The holy martyr Plato was a young Christian of Ancyra in Galatia who suffered in the persecutions at the beginning of the fourth century. Brought before the governor, he refused every inducement to deny Christ, answered his judges with boldness and wisdom, and after enduring cruel tortures was beheaded.

• Romanos the Deacon and Barulas

  Martyr, Ρωμανός ο Διάκονος

  Saint Romanos was a deacon of Caesarea in Palestine who was in Antioch during the persecution of Diocletian. Seeing Christians going to offer sacrifice, he exhorted them to stand firm and was arrested. Tradition relates that when the governor mocked him, Romanos called a small boy, Barulas, who confessed Christ and was beheaded.

• Anastasios of Paramythia

  Martyr, Αναστάσιος ο Νεομάρτυς

  Saint Anastasios was a young man of Paramythia in Epirus. Tradition relates that when he defended his sister from an Ottoman official, he was arrested and pressed to convert to Islam.

• Zacchaeus and Alphaeus

  Martyr, Ζακχαίος ο Διάκονος και Αλφαίος

  Saint Zacchaeus was a deacon of the church of Gadara and Alphaeus a reader of Caesarea. During the persecution of Diocletian they were arrested, Zacchaeus for his open confession and Alphaeus for exhorting Christians not to sacrifice.
