Holy Martyrs Romanos the Deacon of Caesarea and the child Barulas, martyred at Antioch.
Saint Romanos was a deacon of Caesarea in Palestine who was in Antioch during the persecution of Diocletian. Seeing Christians going to offer sacrifice, he exhorted them to stand firm and was arrested. Tradition relates that when the governor mocked him, Romanos called a small boy, Barulas, who confessed Christ and was beheaded.
Romanos had his tongue cut out, yet continued to praise God, and was finally strangled in prison.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Romanos the Deacon and Barulas is commemorated on November 18. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 1 of the civil calendar.
