Righteous Eleazar and Phinehas, high priests of Israel, son and grandson of Aaron.
The righteous Eleazar was the son of Aaron and succeeded him as high priest of Israel, serving beside Joshua in the division of the Promised Land. His son Phinehas is praised in Scripture for his zeal for the Lord, by which the plague among the people was stayed, and God granted him a covenant of everlasting priesthood.
The Church remembers these Old Testament priests on September 2.
