Eudokia

Holy Martyr Eudocia of Samaritan.

St. Eudokia was a Samaritan of Heliopolis in Phoenicia who lived in the early centuries of the Church. Wealthy and famed for her beauty, she was moved to repentance by the words of a monk named Germanos, was baptized, gave her riches to the poor, and entered the monastic life, excelling in fasting and prayer.

Tradition relates that she endured slander and persecution with patience, and at last completed her course as a martyr, beheaded for her confession of Christ. Honored as a model of repentance at the threshold of spring, she is commemorated on March 1.

On the New Calendar, Eudokia is commemorated on March 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 14 of the civil calendar.
