Eumenios of Gortyna

Bishop Eumenius of Gortyna.

St. Eumenios was Bishop of Gortyna in Crete, a shepherd remembered for his gentleness, his generosity to the poor, and his gift of wonderworking. He defended the Orthodox faith of the Church and ended his days in exile in the Thebaid of Egypt, from whence his relics were returned to his flock in Crete.

He is honored among the holy hierarchs of the Cretan church, and is commemorated on September 18.
