  Eumenios of Gortyna

  Hierarch, Ευμένιος

  St. Eumenios was Bishop of Gortyna in Crete, a shepherd remembered for his gentleness, his generosity to the poor, and his gift of wonderworking. He defended the Orthodox faith of the Church and ended his days in exile in the Thebaid of Egypt, from whence his relics were returned to his flock in Crete.

• Ariadne of Phrygia

  Holy Woman, Αριάδνη

  St. Ariadne was a slave in the household of a prominent man of Prymnessos in Phrygia in the second century. When she refused to join in a pagan sacrifice for her master's son she was beaten and fled to the mountains; tradition relates that a rock opened to hide her from her pursuers and that she gave up her soul there.

  The holy martyrs Sophia and Irene were Christian women of Egypt who confessed Christ in the time of the persecutions and were beheaded.

  St. Kastor was a Christian of Alexandria who confessed Christ in the time of the persecutions and, tradition relates, was put to death by torments together with the holy women Sophia and Irene.

• Romylos of Ravanica

  Venerable, Ρωμύλος της Ραβάνιτσας

  St. Romylos was born at Vidin in Bulgaria in the fourteenth century and became a disciple of St. Gregory of Sinai at Paroria, later living as a hesychast on Mount Athos. Driven from the Holy Mountain by Turkish raids, he settled at the monastery of Ravanica in Serbia, where he reposed.

• Hilarion of Optina

  Venerable, Ιλαρίων της Όπτινα

  St. Hilarion was born in 1805 and, after years of caring for the poor in the world, entered Optina Monastery, where he became a disciple of the elder Macarius and later confessor and elder of the community. He was known for his gentleness and his gift of healing souls afflicted by despair.
