Euphrosyne of Alexandria (2nd)

Venerable Euphrosyne of Alexandria.

St. Euphrosyne of Alexandria lived in the fifth century. The daughter of a wealthy and pious father, she fled a marriage arranged for her and, disguising herself in men's clothing, entered a monastery of men under the name Smaragdos, where she lived for many years in fasting, prayer, and perfect obscurity.

Only at the end of her life did she reveal herself to her own father, who had long mourned her and who himself took up the monastic life in her cell. She is commemorated on September 25.
