Hieromartyr Paphnutius of Egypt and the 546 martyrs who suffered with him.

St. Paphnutius was an ascetic and priest of Egypt who, in the persecution of Diocletian, went of his own accord before the governor and confessed Christ. Tradition relates that his constancy under torture brought many to the faith, and that five hundred and forty-six were put to death with him before he himself was crucified.

They are commemorated on September 25.
