St. Flavian the Confessor, Patriarch of Constantinople.
St. Flavian was Patriarch of Constantinople in the fifth century. He condemned the heresy of Eutyches at a local council, but at the Robber Council of Ephesus in 449 he was deposed and so brutally beaten by the heretics that he died shortly afterwards.
The Fourth Ecumenical Council at Chalcedon vindicated his memory and his relics were brought to Constantinople with honour.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Flavian of Constantinople is commemorated on February 16. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 1 of the civil calendar.
