Venerable Gennadios of Vatopedi, steward of the monastery, witness of the miracle of the oil.
Venerable Gennadios was the steward of the Vatopedi monastery on Mount Athos in the fourteenth century. Tradition relates that when the monastery's oil ran out he wished to stop supplying the brethren, but the abbot ordered him to trust in the Theotokos, and the empty jar was found overflowing.
The icon before which this took place is venerated at Vatopedi as the Elaiovrytissa, the Oil-Flowing.
