George and John, Patriarchs of Constantinople

Saints George and John, Patriarchs of Constantinople in the seventh century.

Saints John and George were successive patriarchs of Constantinople in the reign of Constantine Pogonatos. George presided during the Sixth Ecumenical Council, which condemned the Monothelite heresy.

They reposed in peace and are commemorated together.

On the New Calendar, George and John, Patriarchs of Constantinople is commemorated on August 18. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 31 of the civil calendar.
