Saint Gregory Dascalul, Metropolitan of Wallachia, translator of the Fathers and disciple of the tradition of Saint Paisius Velichkovsky.
Saint Gregory, called the Teacher, was a monk of Neamts formed in the tradition of Saint Paisius Velichkovsky, and devoted himself to translating the writings of the Fathers into Romanian. He became metropolitan of Wallachia in 1823, laboured for the education of clergy and the care of the poor, and endured exile for his defence of the Church.
He reposed in 1834 and was glorified by the Romanian Orthodox Church in 2006.

On the New Calendar, Gregory the Teacher, Metropolitan of Wallachia is commemorated on June 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 5 of the civil calendar.
