Hermias the Martyr

Holy Martyr Hermias of Comana.

The Holy Martyr Hermias was an aged soldier who suffered for Christ at Comana in the second century. Summoned in his old age to sacrifice to the idols, the veteran refused, confessing the Lord whom he had served all his life, and he endured many torments with a young man's courage before being put to death by the sword.

The Church honors in him the crown of a long life made perfect in martyrdom, and in Greece his feast is kept as the name day of those called Ermis. He is commemorated on May 31.
