  Hermias the Martyr

  Martyr, Ερμείας

  The Holy Martyr Hermias was an aged soldier who suffered for Christ at Comana in the second century. Summoned in his old age to sacrifice to the idols, the veteran refused, confessing the Lord whom he had served all his life, and he endured many torments with a young man's courage before being put to death by the sword.

• Eusebios and Charalambos

  Martyr, Ευσέβιος και Χαράλαμπος

  Eusebios and Charalambos were Christians who confessed Christ during the persecutions and, according to the synaxarion, were put to death by fire. The place of their martyrdom is not preserved.

• Eustathios of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Ευστάθιος Κωνσταντινουπόλεως

  Eustathios was a priest of the imperial palace who was raised to the patriarchal throne of Constantinople in 1019. He governed the Church for six years with prudence and reposed in peace in 1025.

• Petronilla of Rome

  Holy Woman, Πετρονίλα

  Petronilla was a Christian virgin of Rome in the first century, buried in the catacomb of Domitilla, whom tradition calls the daughter of the Apostle Peter, in the sense that she was brought to faith by him. Tradition relates that she refused a pagan suitor and died after fasting and prayer.

  Five Christians were put to death for their faith at Ascalon on the coast of Palestine, according to the synaxarion by being buried alive in the ground. Their names are not preserved.

• Co-workers of the Apostle Paul

  Apostle, Συνεργοί του Αποστόλου Παύλου

  The Apostle Paul closes many of his letters by greeting those who labored with him in the Gospel: Priscilla and Aquila, Epainetos, Urbanus, Apelles, Tryphaina and Tryphosa, Persis, Epaphras, Onesiphoros and many others. The Church honors them together as the first fellow-workers in the spread of the faith.

  Hierarch, Ιερόθεος ο Νέος

  Hierotheos was a priest of the Ottoman period who, tradition relates, was put to death for refusing to abandon the Christian faith. Few details of his life have been preserved.
