Hypatios and Andrew the Confessors

Hieromartyrs Hypatios the bishop and Andrew the presbyter, confessors of the holy icons.

St. Hypatios, a bishop, and St. Andrew, a priest, were monks of Lydia who defended the veneration of the holy icons under the iconoclast emperor Leo the Isaurian in the eighth century. Tradition relates that they were tortured, their beards burned and their heads smeared with pitch, and at last beheaded.

They are commemorated on September 20.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Hypatios and Andrew the Confessors is commemorated on September 20. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 3 of the civil calendar.
