Jeremiah I of Constantinople

St. Jeremiah I, Patriarch of Constantinople in the sixteenth century.

St. Jeremiah I was Patriarch of Constantinople in the first half of the sixteenth century, during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent. He defended the churches of the city against confiscation, traveled to Jerusalem and Sinai to strengthen the faithful, and reposed in 1546.

He is commemorated on January 13.
