St. Joachim, known affectionately as Papoulakis, was born on the island of Ithaca in 1786. As a young man he fled to Mount Athos, where he lived for many years in obedience and prayer at the monastery of Vatopedi. Returning to Ithaca, he devoted himself to the poor, to preaching, and to consoling the islanders, and was known for foretelling events and for his love of children.
He reposed in 1868 and was glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1998. His memory is kept on March 2.

Joachim was born on Ithaca in 1786 and became a monk on Mount Athos. Returning to his island, he lived in great simplicity, comforting the poor and healing the sick, so that the people called him Papoulakis, the little father.
He reposed in 1868, and his relics were found incorrupt; this day commemorates their translation, while his principal feast is March 2.
