Joasaph of Dionysiou

Holy New Monk-Martyr Joasaph of Dionysiou Monastery on Mount Athos, who suffered at Constantinople in 1536.

Joasaph was a monk and iconographer of the monastery of Dionysiou on Mount Athos, tonsured by the abbot Stephen. Longing for martyrdom, he went to Constantinople with the abbot's blessing.

There he confessed Christ before the Turkish authorities and was beheaded in 1536, receiving the crown of martyrdom.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Joasaph of Dionysiou is commemorated on October 26. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 8 of the civil calendar.
