John, Heraclemon, Andrew and Theophilus of Egypt

Venerable hermits John, Heraclemon, Andrew and Theophilus of the Egyptian desert.

These four venerable hermits lived in the Egyptian desert in the fourth century. Tradition relates that they were found by the monk Paphnutius, who recorded how they had left the world together as young men and lived for many decades in the wilderness, nourished by God and praying without ceasing.

They reposed in peace in the desert, leaving to the Church the memory of their perfect renunciation.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, John, Heraclemon, Andrew and Theophilus of Egypt is commemorated on December 2. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 15 of the civil calendar.
