Holy Martyr Myrope of Chios, who buried the martyr Isidore.
The holy martyr Myrope was born in Ephesus and lived on the island of Chios in the third century, where she devoted herself to prayer and to anointing the tombs of the martyrs with myrrh, from which she took her name. When the soldier Isidore was martyred on Chios, she secretly took his body and buried it with honour.
When the guards were threatened with death for the missing body, Myrope came forward and confessed what she had done. She was scourged and thrown into prison, where tradition relates that she gave up her soul amid a heavenly light and the fragrance of myrrh.

On the New Calendar, Myrope of Chios is commemorated on December 2. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 15 of the civil calendar.
