Jonah the Sabbaite

Venerable Jonah the Presbyter of the Lavra of St. Sabbas, father of Sts. Theophanes and Theodore Graptoi.

St. Jonah was a priest of Palestine in the eighth and ninth centuries who, after raising his sons Theophanes and Theodore, the Branded Confessors of the iconoclast period, entered the Lavra of St. Sabbas and lived there in asceticism. He was graced with the gift of healing.

He reposed in peace and is commemorated on September 21.

On the New Calendar, Jonah the Sabbaite is commemorated on September 21. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 4 of the civil calendar.
