Platon Aivazidis

Hieromartyr Platon Aivazidis, archimandrite of Amisos, martyred in 1921.

St. Platon Aivazidis was a Pontic Greek priest and archimandrite of Amisos, the present Samsun, who served the Greek Orthodox of Pontus during the years of persecution. In 1921 he was arrested with other leaders of the community and hanged at Amasya.

He was glorified by the Church of Greece among the martyrs of Asia Minor and is commemorated on September 21.

On the New Calendar, Platon Aivazidis is commemorated on September 21. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 4 of the civil calendar.
