Julian the Hermit of the Euphrates

Venerable Julian the Hermit of Mesopotamia, who foretold the death of Julian the Apostate.

Julian lived in a cave near the Euphrates in the fourth century, eating only once a week and spending his days in prayer. Many disciples gathered around him.

Tradition relates that while praying for the Church he learned of the death of the emperor Julian the Apostate at the very hour it happened; he reposed in peace around 370.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Julian the Hermit of the Euphrates is commemorated on October 18. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 31 of the civil calendar.
