Kyprianos the New Martyr

New Monastic Martyr Kyprianos of Koutloumousiou, who suffered in Constantinople.

St. Kyprianos was a monk of Koutloumousiou Monastery on Mount Athos who, burning with zeal, went to Thessaloniki and then Constantinople to preach Christ to the Muslims. Refusing to renounce his faith, he was beheaded in 1679.

He is honored among the New Martyrs of the Holy Mountain.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Kyprianos the New Martyr is commemorated on July 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 18 of the civil calendar.
