Maria Skobtsova and those with her

Synaxis of the Russian saints who died in France: Mother Maria of Paris and her companions.

St. Maria (Skobtsova) was a Russian nun in Paris who devoted herself to the poor, refugees and, during the war, the persecuted Jews. She was arrested with her son Yuri, the priest Dimitri Klepinin and Ilya Fondaminsky, and died in the Ravensbruck camp in 1945.

They were glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2004 and are commemorated together.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Maria Skobtsova and those with her is commemorated on July 20. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 2 of the civil calendar.
