Markianos of Cyrrhus

Venerable Markianos, hermit of the desert of Cyrrhus in Syria.

St. Markianos was a nobleman of Cyrrhus in Syria in the fourth century who withdrew into the desert and enclosed himself in a small cell, living in silence and strict fasting. Disciples gathered around him, and his fame drew many visitors, whom he taught with wisdom.

He reposed in peace and is commemorated on January 18.
