Martha of Monemvasia

Venerable Martha of Monemvasia, a woman ascetic of the Peloponnese.

Martha lived in Monemvasia in the Peloponnese and, after her widowhood, devoted herself to prayer, fasting and works of mercy, tradition placing her around the tenth century. She is remembered for her humility and her care for the needy.

She reposed in peace and is honored locally on May 5.

On the New Calendar, Martha of Monemvasia is commemorated on May 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 18 of the civil calendar.
