Micah the Prophet

The Holy Prophet Micah.

The Holy Prophet Micah was one of the twelve minor prophets, prophesying in the kingdom of Judah in the eighth century before Christ, in the days of the Prophet Isaiah. He rebuked injustice and false worship, foretold judgment upon Jerusalem, and proclaimed the mercy of God who pardons iniquity.

Above all he is remembered for foretelling that from Bethlehem would come forth the Ruler of Israel, the prophecy fulfilled in the Nativity of Christ. He is commemorated on August 14.

On the New Calendar, Micah the Prophet is commemorated on August 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 27 of the civil calendar.
