Niketas of Apollonias

Saint Niketas the Confessor, Bishop of Apollonias in Bithynia.

St. Niketas was Bishop of Apollonias in Bithynia in the ninth century. For his defense of the holy icons during the second period of iconoclasm he was persecuted and driven from his see.

He reposed in exile, and the Church honors him as a confessor on March 20.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Niketas of Apollonias is commemorated on March 20. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 2 of the civil calendar.
