Venerable Nilus the Ascetic of Sinai, disciple of Saint John Chrysostom and spiritual writer.
Saint Nilus was a high official in Constantinople and a disciple of Saint John Chrysostom. By agreement with his wife he left the world and settled with his son Theodoulos on Mount Sinai, where he lived as an ascetic.
He wrote many letters and treatises on the spiritual life which remain among the classics of Orthodox ascetical literature, and reposed in the fifth century.

On the New Calendar, Nilus of Sinai is commemorated on November 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 25 of the civil calendar.
