Sabbas Nigdelis

Holy New Martyr Sabbas Nigdelis of Nigde in Cappadocia, martyred in Constantinople in 1726.

Saint Sabbas was born at Nigde in Cappadocia and earned his living as a tradesman in Constantinople. Tradition relates that after a dispute he was falsely accused before the Ottoman authorities and pressed to convert to Islam.

He refused and was beheaded in Constantinople in 1726.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Sabbas Nigdelis is commemorated on November 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 25 of the civil calendar.
