Olympia and Euphrosyne of Mytilene

Venerable Martyrs Olympia and Euphrosyne, nuns of Mytilene slain by invaders.

Olympia was born in Constantinople and became a nun on the island of Lesbos, where she was joined by Euphrosyne. Tradition relates that pirates raided their monastery in the thirteenth century and, when the nuns refused to renounce Christ, put Olympia to death with nails.

Their relics were later found and are venerated on Lesbos.

On the New Calendar, Olympia and Euphrosyne of Mytilene is commemorated on May 11. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 24 of the civil calendar.
