Peter of Argos

Bishop Peter of Argos.

St. Peter, Bishop of Argos, was a monk of deep humility who lived in the ninth and tenth centuries. Long refusing episcopal office, he was at last persuaded to shepherd the Church of Argos in the Peloponnese, where he became a father to his flock, feeding the hungry in time of famine, ransoming captives, and caring for orphans and the poor.

He was revered even in his lifetime as a wonderworker, and after his repose his relics became a source of healing. He remains a beloved saint of the Peloponnese, commemorated on May 3.
