Peter the Hesychast

Venerable Peter the Hesychast of Galatia, who lived as an ascetic from childhood.

Venerable Peter was born in Galatia and, according to Theodoret of Cyrrhus, left home at the age of seven to live as an ascetic. He settled in a tomb near Antioch where he lived for many years in silence and prayer.

He was known for his miracles and reposed at a great age in the fifth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Peter the Hesychast is commemorated on November 25. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 8 of the civil calendar.
