Prokla the Wife of Pilate

Saint Prokla, the wife of Pontius Pilate, who pleaded for the Righteous One.

The Gospel of Matthew records that Pilate's wife sent word to him during the trial of Christ, saying she had suffered much in a dream because of that righteous man and urging him to have nothing to do with Him.

Tradition names her Prokla or Claudia Procula and relates that she later became a Christian; the Church honors her for her witness at the Passion.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Prokla the Wife of Pilate is commemorated on October 27. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 9 of the civil calendar.
