Tabitha

Holy Righteous Tabitha.

St. Tabitha, called Dorcas in Greek, was a disciple of Christ living at Joppa in the days of the apostles. The Acts of the Apostles describes her as full of good works and almsgiving, sewing garments for the widows and the poor; when she fell sick and died, the Apostle Peter was summoned, and by his prayer God raised her from the dead.

Her restoration to life brought many in Joppa to believe in the Lord, and she remains a model of practical, quiet charity. She is commemorated on October 25.

On the New Calendar, Tabitha is commemorated on October 25. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 7 of the civil calendar.
