St. George, Bishop of Amastris on the Black Sea, wonderworker.
February 21
St. George was born near Amastris in Paphlagonia to pious parents and became a hermit and later a monk. Against his will he was chosen Bishop of Amastris, where he was known for his charity and his miracles.
Tradition relates that after his death his intercession saved the city from a raid by the Rus'. He reposed in the early ninth century.
October 25
George was born at Kromna near Amastris in Paphlagonia and lived as a hermit on Mount Agrioserika before the people of Amastris chose him as their bishop. He was consecrated in Constantinople and shepherded his flock with great wisdom.
He defended the city from Arab attack by his prayers and reposed around 805; tradition relates that his intercession later saved Amastris from a raid of the Rus.
