These ten Egyptian Christians confessed Christ during the persecution under Maximian and, tradition relates, were tortured and then left to die of hunger and thirst in the desert, thereby receiving the crown of martyrdom.

On the New Calendar, Ten Martyrs of Egypt is commemorated on June 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 18 of the civil calendar.
