Third Finding of the Precious Head of John the Baptist.
The Church commemorates on May 25 the Third Finding of the honorable head of St. John the Forerunner. According to tradition, the relic had been hidden during the years of iconoclasm; when the veneration of holy things was restored, the head of the Baptist was revealed once more and brought with honor to Constantinople, received by emperor and patriarch amid great rejoicing.
Each finding of the precious head renewed the devotion of the faithful to the Forerunner, the greatest of the prophets and the first preacher of repentance. The feast bears witness to the care of God in preserving the relics of His saints.
