Xenia of Rome

Venerable Xenia of Rome and her two maidservants.

St. Xenia was born in Rome in the fifth century to a family of rank and was named Eusebia. Fleeing an arranged marriage with two of her maidservants, she took the name Xenia, meaning stranger, and settled at Mylasa in Caria, where she founded a convent and lived in great humility.

Tradition relates that a cross of stars appeared in the sky at her repose. She is commemorated on January 24.

On the New Calendar, Xenia of Rome is commemorated on January 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 6 of the civil calendar.
