  Thaddaeus the Apostle

  Apostle, Θαδδαίος

  St. Thaddaeus, numbered among the Seventy Apostles, was a Jew of Edessa who came to Jerusalem, heard the preaching of John the Forerunner, and became a disciple of the Lord. According to the ancient tradition of the Church, after Pentecost he was sent to Edessa, where he healed the ruler Abgar, preached the Gospel, and established the Church in that city.

• Bassa and her Children

  Holy Woman, Βάσσα

  Saint Bassa was the wife of a pagan priest in Edessa who raised her three sons as Christians. Denounced by her husband, she watched her sons die for Christ and then suffered many tortures herself before being beheaded in the reign of Maximian.

• Athanasios Patellarios

  Hierarch, Αθανάσιος ο Πατελλάρος

  Saint Athanasios was born in Crete and twice served briefly as Patriarch of Constantinople in the seventeenth century. Travelling in Russia to seek help for the Church, he reposed at Lubny in Ukraine in 1654.

• Alexander of Iconium

  Venerable, Αλέξανδρος ο εν Ικονίω

  Saint Alexander was an ascetic who lived in Iconium in Asia Minor and reposed in peace.

• Abramios of Smolensk

  Venerable, Αβράμιος Σμολένσκης

  Saint Abramios was a monk and preacher of Smolensk in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, learned in the Scriptures and a painter of icons. Slandered and tried by his enemies, he was vindicated and made archimandrite of a monastery in the city.
