  Spyridon of Trimythous

  Hierarch, Σπυρίδων Τριμυθούντος

  St. Spyridon, Bishop of Trimythous in Cyprus, was a shepherd of great simplicity and holiness who lived in the fourth century. Married and later widowed, he was made bishop while continuing to tend his sheep. According to tradition, at the First Ecumenical Council he demonstrated the unity of the Holy Trinity by pressing a clay tile, from which fire rose, water flowed, and earth remained in his hand.

• John of Zichna

  Venerable, Ιωάννης Ζιχνών

  Venerable John was Bishop of Zichna in Macedonia in the fourteenth century. Together with his uncle Joachim he founded and built up the monastery of the Honourable Forerunner near Serres, which became one of the great monastic centres of northern Greece. He reposed in peace there.

• Alexander of Jerusalem

  Hierarch, Αλέξανδρος Ιεροσολύμων

  The hieromartyr Alexander was a pupil of Clement of Alexandria and a friend of Origen. Bishop first in Cappadocia, he was chosen to share the see of Jerusalem, where he founded a library and a school. In the persecution of Decius he confessed Christ and died in prison at Caesarea in the middle of the third century.

  Martyr, Συνετός

  The holy martyr Synetus was a reader of the Church of Rome in the third century. Brought before the emperor Aurelian, he confessed Christ boldly and was beheaded.

• Therapon of Monza

  Venerable, Θεράπων του Μονζέσκιϋ

  Venerable Therapon was a Russian monk of the sixteenth century who founded a monastery on the river Monza in the Kostroma region. Known for his humility and gift of prophecy, he reposed in peace in 1597.
