  Eustratius and companions

  Martyr, Ευστράτιος

  The holy Five Martyrs Eustratius, Auxentius, Eugene, Mardarius, and Orestes suffered for Christ in Armenia during the persecution under Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century. Eustratius, a distinguished imperial officer, confessed Christ openly and endured many torments together with his companions, each of whom sealed his faith with his blood.

• Lucy of Syracuse

  Holy Woman, Λουκία

  The holy virgin martyr Lucy was a Christian of Syracuse in Sicily who suffered under the persecution of Diocletian at the beginning of the fourth century. Having vowed her virginity to Christ and given her dowry to the poor, she was denounced by her suitor and brought before the governor.

• Arsenios of Latros

  Venerable, Αρσένιος ο εν Λάτρω

  Venerable Arsenios was a Byzantine official who became a monk on Mount Latros near Miletus, where he was later chosen abbot of the monastery of Kellibara. Tradition relates that he was a wonderworker who reposed in peace.

• Gabriel of Pec

  Hierarch, Γαβριήλ Πεκίου

  The hieromartyr Gabriel was Patriarch of the Serbs at Pec in the seventeenth century. Accused before the Ottoman authorities on his return from Russia, he refused to embrace Islam and was hanged at Bursa in 1659.

• Herman of Alaska

  Venerable, Γερμανός της Αλάσκας

  Venerable Herman was a monk of Valaam who came to Alaska with the first Orthodox mission in 1794. He lived for decades on Spruce Island, caring for the native Aleuts, defending them against injustice, and teaching the children; he reposed there in 1837.

• Founders of Machairas Monastery

  Venerable, Νεόφυτος, Ιγνάτιος, Προκόπιος και Νείλος

  These venerable fathers of the twelfth century founded the monastery of the Theotokos of Machairas in the mountains of Cyprus, around an icon of the Mother of God found there according to tradition. Neilos, the third of the founders, was later made Bishop of Tamassos. They are honoured as patrons of one of the great monasteries of Cyprus.
